REVIEW : Europe can create sustainable built environments

Amidst growing geopolitical tensions and economic obstacles, Europe finds itself at a critical juncture, where solutions that prioritize both prosperity and sustainability are paramount. The region's built environment, while comparatively efficient, still faces significant challenges. A substantial portion of greenhouse gases are emitted, and many European cities are vulnerable to climate risks. With millions of homes requiring construction and over 30 million buildings in need of renovation, an opportunity for transformation presents itself.


By embracing nature-positive and circular strategies, Europe can turn these challenges into opportunities. Such an approach has the potential to boost economic potential and enhance the well-being of its citizens. Europe has already laid a strong foundation with supportive legislation for circular strategies. Now, it must harness the innovation and competitiveness of the circular economy to build a future where nature and the economy can harmoniously coexist and thrive.
