NEWS: Coastal wetlands are unable to adapt to the rate of sea-level rise and are constrained by infrastructure

Wetlands, precious ecosystems that shield coastlines, safeguard drinking water from saltwater contamination, and nourish diverse wildlife, face a dire threat from the accelerating pace of sea-level rise, driven by global warming. Please give us a brief summary about your career

I am the Head of Construction Management for The City of Cape Town with more than 12 years of experience in the public and private sector working on various urban infrastructure projects.

I am professionally registered as a Construction Project Manager (with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Profession), Chartered Project Management Surveyor (with Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors), Chartered Building Surveyor (with the South African Council for Architect Profession), and a member of Project Management South Africa.

I further hold a Master’s Degree in Project management and am currently busy pursuing his PhD at the University of Cape Town. Under the supervision of Prof Abimbola Windapo, the first woman Professor of Construction Management in South Africa.

What did you like about the book?

It gives me a quick or daily inspirational motivation that can be read in one minute, for this reason I believe it is ideal for people who are always on the move. As the book put it “Quick inspiration for the time of your life.”

How did reading it change you, or your career?

It provided me with direction and clarity to often overlook professional and personal control issues in my daily routines. It is a humorous and energetic guide for leaders to remind them of their higher calling and emotional intelligence.

What is the biggest lesson you learnt from the book?

As Leaders we don’t have all the answers we need to continually grow and inspire to create leaders better than ourselves.

What do you think the author’s purpose was with the book?

I believe the author's intention is to spark one's mind with a quick impactful read. The motivation is short and sweet with a power punch. It fuels the mind and provides bread for the soul.
