NEWS : Building sector confidence gains strength in Q3

The FNB/BER Building Confidence Index is a measure of sentiment within the construction industry. In the second quarter of 2024, the index grew from 35 to 40 points, indicating a rise in optimism. However, two of the six sectors experienced a decline.

Despite the positive outlook for activity, several constraints continue to dampen sentiment in the sector, such as delays in municipal approvals and the presence of organized crime and extortion. These issues must be addressed to ensure that projects can progress according to schedule and within budget.

The index is based on input from building industry professionals, including material manufacturers, architects, hardware retailers, subcontractors, main contractors, and quantity surveyors. These professionals are asked to assess their level of confidence in the industry on a scale of 0 to 100.

A score below 50 points signifies negative confidence, while a score above 50 points indicates positive confidence.
