Lereng Thabo Ncube's journey to becoming a Professional Construction Manager (PrCM) is driven by his belief that it is an essential step in achieving global competitiveness. He believes that professional registration is a crucial part of the journey towards global competitiveness.
Initially, I held the opinion that professional registration was of the utmost importance, and this view has not wavered throughout my professional development. This is because official registrations not only validate one's skills but also ensure the safeguarding of the profession and its elevated standing within the community it serves.
Moreover, my journey toward professional registration has not only reinforced my beliefs but has also enriched them. The collaborative nature of this endeavor, which heavily relies on interactions with fellow professionals and mentors, substantially contributes to one's professional growth and instills confidence in decision-making and leadership.
Furthermore, this journey has had a positive impact on my career trajectory. It has significantly increased the responsibilities and decision-making power entrusted to me within my role and organization. Additionally, it has altered how colleagues and employers perceive me as an individual within the professional setting.
However, the journey was not without its challenges. I encountered obstacles such as a general lack of information and guidance on the necessary steps to navigate the process, as well as meeting the reporting requirements of the council. Nevertheless, extensive consultations with field experts and mentors, coupled with my personal experience, proved invaluable in overcoming these hurdles.
I strongly encourage professionals to embark on this journey, particularly in an era where safeguarding the public and professionals is of paramount importance. The services provided to the public by professionals should be subject to regulation, with decisions being made by individuals who assume responsibility and continually update their skillset through continuing professional development (CPDs).
In conclusion, my advice to professionals considering this journey is to have a clear understanding of their aspirations and to remain steadfast in their pursuit of this goal. Mentorship plays a crucial role in this endeavor, and it is essential to tap into the knowledge and experience of those who have successfully navigated this path.
