NEWS: Coastal wetlands are unable to adapt to the rate of sea-level rise and are constrained by infrastructure

Wetlands, precious ecosystems that shield coastlines, safeguard drinking water from saltwater contamination, and nourish diverse wildlife, face a dire threat from the accelerating pace of sea-level rise, driven by global warming. Wetlands have historically adapted to rising sea levels by expanding upward and inland. However, predictions indicate that the waterline will soon shift far too rapidly for wetlands to keep pace. Consequently, future decades may witness the tragic loss of these vital wetland ecosystems. Wetlands along coastlines have historically played valuable roles for people and wildlife, but are now facing the threat of sea-level rise. As temperatures rise, sea levels are rising at an accelerating rate, and wetlands are unable to keep pace by building upward and migrating inland. VACANCY: Construction Manager

 A construction company based in Durban, South Africa, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Construction Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in monitoring, supervising and overseeing all project activities.

Purpose

To monitor supervise and oversee all project activities, including but not limited to recruit new members, monitoring performance, as well as educating all employees on safety, by demonstrating a sound understanding of safety regulations in turn being able to transfer his/her knowledge to the team to the required quality specification, within the project timeline and within the project budget allocation. Able to plan ahead, identify possible issues, problem-solve, communicate clearly and can adapt to a situation as required from this position.

Requirements

At least 10 years proven heavy concrete construction experience

Qualifications

  • Registered with SACPCMP or ECSA
  • Grade 12 (matric)
  • NDip in Management of Civil Engineering Construction Processes: Road works(NQF Level 4) SAQA


Competencies required

  • Strong management, supervision and planning skills
  • Ability to keep track of multiple projects
  • Respond quickly to changing situations and works well under pressure while maintaining team effectiveness
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Able to work independently under pressure and make informed decisions
