PROFILE: My journey to Professional Registration - Nangamso Cetywayo

Construction Manager Nangamso Cetywayo believes Professional Registration is a status that comes with a great deal of responsibility.

I have always believed in the importance of professional registration, but the process seemed daunting and exhausting, so I put it off for a few years.

When I finally started the process, I realized that it is a status that comes with a great deal of responsibility. One must constantly develop and empower themselves to maintain this status. It is a clear-cut process that requires one to clearly record their activities early in their careers and find the right mentor to ensure they are exposed to all aspects of Project Management.

This journey has had a positive impact on me. The organization I work for advocates for professional registration and maturity, which has inspired my colleagues in my unit to pursue professional registration as well. My line manager has also informed me about better opportunities within the organization that I may be interested in.

When I struggled to compile the required reports and prepare for the interview, I consulted with those who had recently attained their professional statuses. They advised me on the correct approach and critical information that must be incorporated in the reports.

I highly recommend all hardhatPROFESSIONALs to embark on this journey. It is good to belong to a professional body that you will be accountable to. Professional bodies will ensure that you have a say in the direction that the industry is going. You will get supporting documents for your projects. You will also be kept abreast of all changes/developments within the industry.

My advice to a hardhatPROFESSIONAL embarking on this journey is to stay the course and enjoy the journey. Learn as much as you can, as you will need all the information for your projects. This will prepare you for professional registration and future projects.
