PROFILE : My journey to Professional Registration - Sizwe Lukhozi

Professional Civil Engineering Technician Sizwe Lukhozi shares his journey towards Professional Registration.

When I embarked on this journey towards my registration as a Professional Engineering Technician I was very doubtful I would ever accomplish my Professional status, but the journey changed my way of thinking. It also changed my approach on how I carry out my duties. It helped me apply my mind and knowledge to the best of my abilities whenever I engage in any work activity.

My career has been impacted in a good way. It has revealed characteristics in me which have positively impacted and moved my career to greater levels and growth remains a key fundamental to a successful career.

I have however encountered an obstacle in the journey. My obstacle was completing my Engineering report. At first, I found it a bit challenging to answer most questions from the outcomes. Which was merely from the understanding point of view. Overcoming this obstacle, I had to seek mentorship that led me to do more research on relatable topics and guide manuals. Eventually, I gained confidence in my approach to completing my report.

I would definitely encourage Hardhat Professionals, especially young candidates to embark on this journey. We need to self elevate ourselves in order to perform or participate at the highest level of our professions at a National or International space and Professional Registration is at the heart of this ambition.

I would highly advise anyone starting on this journey to seek out mentorship and do research in line with their current discipline i.e. governing manuals and specifications.
