CAREERTIPS : Top 5 Careertips to my younger self - Sibongiseni Mbadamana

Senior Built Environment Professional Sibongiseni Mbadamana shares career tips he would have given to himself when he started out in his career journey.

When I look back on my career journey, I don't believe there are any career mistakes or regrets only lessons, but if I have to speak to my younger self on navigating this journey, I would advise my younger self to focus on the following 5 things:

1. Take initiative and be inquisitive. Also pay attention to what your seniors are doing and be able to differentiate what is correct or wrong in the process.

2. Make sure to try and learn from everyone as much as you can and avoid negative and toxic people by all means.

3. Always make sure that you have a plan as to where you want to be and by when etc. Also make sure you have an understanding as to what is required in order for you to be at that particular destination. Look at the people that are where you want to be and make sure to try to do more of what they have done and acquired in all forms.

4. Always make sure to complete everything that you have started in order for you to be where you want to be, you can't start something and leave it halfway and for sure it might not be what you thought you really wanted but complete it then you can move to the next one.

5. Invest more also on soft skills like understanding human behavior, having sympathy ,try to learn to communicate very well and importantly learn how to write for different audiences etc.
