Building Inspection Consultant Sibusiso Mntambo who recently completed his journey to Professional registration shares his experience.
I have recently obtained my registration as a Professional Building Inspector with the SACPCMP ,even though earlier on in my career when I started in construction I didn't think professional registration was that important it seemed like a nice to have because it was not valued that much to an extent that at the time senior guys in the company I worked for were not registered with any professional body. The cost of application fees also discouraged me from following through with registration in the early years of my career
Over the years I have come to a realization that professional registration gives credentials to your ability to perform in the industry, and my views on professional registration have since changed.I now believe it is imperative that hardhatPROFESSIONALS should embark on this journey as early possible in their careers
I have just recently registered and the registration has not had an impact on my career projection but I do believe that my career will be positively impacted. I started this journey in 2019 and I got to the interview stage only in 2022. This was a bit long but I soldiered through and kept on doing follow ups with the professional body when things were not moving from one stage to the next.

Even though my journey took longer than necessary I would still advise hardhatPROFESSIONALS to embark on the journey and start it as soon as possible from the start of their careers. To position yourself for success on this journey I would offer the following tips .
1. Get a mentor
2. Understand the professional registration process for the relevant field
3. Be intentional in completing the different stages of the professional registration journey
