NEWS: Coastal wetlands are unable to adapt to the rate of sea-level rise and are constrained by infrastructure

Wetlands, precious ecosystems that shield coastlines, safeguard drinking water from saltwater contamination, and nourish diverse wildlife, face a dire threat from the accelerating pace of sea-level rise, driven by global warming. Wetlands have historically adapted to rising sea levels by expanding upward and inland. However, predictions indicate that the waterline will soon shift far too rapidly for wetlands to keep pace. Consequently, future decades may witness the tragic loss of these vital wetland ecosystems. Wetlands along coastlines have historically played valuable roles for people and wildlife, but are now facing the threat of sea-level rise. As temperatures rise, sea levels are rising at an accelerating rate, and wetlands are unable to keep pace by building upward and migrating inland. Please give us a brief summary about your career 

Head: Construction Management for The City of Cape Town with more than 12 years of experience in the public and private sector working on various urban infrastructure projects.

I am professionally registered as a Construction Project Manager (with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Profession), Chartered Project Management Surveyor (with Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors), Chartered Building Surveyor (with the South African Council for Architect Profession), and a member of Project Management South Africa. 

I further hold a Master’s Degree in Project management and currently busy pursuing his PhD at the University of Cape Town.  Under the supervision of  Prof Abimbola Windapo the first woman Professor of Construction Management in South Africa.

What did you like about the book? 

I enjoy the relationship of Safety and Leadership, the book further simply articulate cold hard facts which we often miss.

Safety applies everywhere not just at work and home.

To make a difference, as the book puts it "A short story with Big Lessons for Home and Work". The book has certainly achieved its mark and more as it wisely provides leadership and safety insights.
